NON SURGICAL
PROCEDURES
There is a large scale of non surgical treatments that are used to correct minor
problems. These treatments can be used alone or in conjunction with a surgical
procedure. They are:
BOTOX: This is a treatment that produces an ISOLATED paralysis of the muscle
fibers. The final result are the disappearance of expression lines and wrinkles,
such as crow's feet and the lines on the forehead and between the eyebrows. This
procedure may also be used in cases where the patient suffers from excessive
sweating in the hands and under the armpits. Consult the Botox* site in our
links for more information.
RESTYLANE*, PERLANE*:: These are compounds of hydraulic acids that are used to
"fill in" or "mold" temporarily specific wrinkles on the face, such as the lines
along the sides of the mouth. This can also be used to add volume to the lips
among other others.
ALLODERM*, CYMETRA*: are prepared from human skin (specific layers of the skin)
in which the cells are eliminated. These fillers have a prolonged effect (they
are also called permanent fillers) for the lines alongside the mouth and lips. A
small surgery is required in the case of Alloderm* for it's insertion.
FACIAL PEELS: There are a variety of different treatments in this category, the
principal effect being the exfoliation of the superficial layers of the skin.
The grade of penetration depends on the type of exfoliate used, and is different
in each individual case, depending on the amount of damage to the skin. This
effect can be achieved by means of chemical peels or physical peels
(dermabrasions). The objective here is to diminish fine lines and stains caused
by sun damage and aging. This is considered to help surgical procedures such as
facial rejuvenation, peribucal and eyelids. A "pre-treatment" is necessary for 2
to 3 weeks prior, in which a cream medication must be applied to the area. For
the best final result prolonged exposure to the sun must be avoided during this
time and up to a few weeks after treatment.
